Discover the Cozy Charm of Our Tunisian Knit Slouchy Beanie!
In this blog post, I'm excited to share the perfect companion to the Tunisian knit infinity scarf: the slouchy beanie! Crafted using the same beautiful yarn and Tunisian knit stitch technique, this beanie brings warmth and style to your winter wardrobe.
What You’ll Find Inside:
Detailed Step-by-Step Instructions: From creating the ribbed band using regular crochet to seamlessly transitioning to the Tunisian knit stitch for the body of the beanie, I've got you covered at every step.
Custom Fit and Comfort: Learn how to adjust the ribbed band to match your head circumference, ensuring a perfect fit. My pattern is designed with flexibility in mind, and the 80-row ribbed band is ideal for most sizes.
Visual Guidance: Check out the accompanying YouTube tutorial for a step-by-step visual guide, making it easy to follow along.
Optional Finishing Touches: Add a pom-pom for that extra bit of fun and personality! Plus, I'll walk you through the mattress stitch for a neat seam and how to cinch the top for that perfect slouch.
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced crocheter, this slouchy beanie pattern is designed to bring you comfort and style. Dive into the details, and let’s crochet a beautiful matching set together!
Tunisian Knit Slouchy Beanie Pattern
Materials:
Yarn: Same as the infinity scarf (cotton-acrylic blend)
Regular crochet hook: 4.5mm
Tunisian crochet hook: 6mm
Yarn needle
Scissors
Optional: Pom-pom for decoration

Rim Instructions (Using Regular Crochet):
Foundation Chain:
With the 4.5mm crochet hook, chain 11.
First Row:
From the second chain from the hook, work a single crochet in each chain across.
Second Row:
Chain 1 and turn your work.
Single crochet in the first stitch.
For the next 8 stitches, work single crochet through the back loop only.
In the last stitch, work a regular single crochet.
Repeat:
Repeat the second row for a total of 80 rows.
The ribbed band should match your head circumference. For reference, 80 rows worked well for my head size.
Switching to Tunisian Crochet (Tunisian Knit Stitch):
Foundation Row:
Using the 6mm Tunisian crochet hook, pick up loops across the ribbed band (refer to the Tunisian knit stitch instructions from the infinity scarf pattern). The number of loops should match the number rows of the ribbing.
Forward Pass:
Insert your hook starting from the second row of the ribbing.
Yarn over and pull up a loop.
Move to the next row, yarn over, and pull up a loop.
Continue this process across the entire ribbing band until you have picked up loops from each row.
You’ll have as many loops on your hook as the number of rows you made.
Return Pass:
Yarn over and pull through one loop on the hook (this creates the chain stitch that will form the foundation).
Then yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook.
Repeat this process (yarn over, pull through two loops) until only one loop remains on the hook.
Continue with Tunisian Knit Stitch:
Work in the Tunisian knit stitch for the body of the beanie.
Continue until the beanie reaches the desired length and slouch.
Forward Pass:
Insert the hook from front to back between the vertical bars of the next stitch (starting from the second stitch).
Yarn over and pull up a loop.
Continue inserting the hook between each vertical bar, yarning over, and pulling up a loop until you reach the end of the row.
Return Pass:
Yarn over and pull through one loop on the hook.
Then yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook.
Repeat this process until you have one loop remaining on the hook.
Keeping Loops on the Hook:
When working the forward pass of the Tunisian knit stitch, make sure you insert the hook between the vertical bars and keep the loops on your hook as you move along. This helps create the distinctive knit-like appearance.
Finishing:
Bind off using the slip stitch method, as detailed in the infinity scarf pattern.
Begin by inserting your hook between the first set of vertical bars, just as you would for the Tunisian knit stitch.
Yarn over and pull up a loop, so you have two loops on your hook.
Now, pull through just one loop on the hook.
This creates a slip stitch and leaves one loop on the hook.
Seaming and Cinching:
Use the mattress stitch to seam the sides of the beanie, forming a tube.
Cinch the top of the beanie and secure it.
Weave in any loose ends.

Optional:
Add a pom-pom for a fun finishing touch!
